Chris Agresta began her athletic career at the tender age of five, when she picked up a basketball for the first time. Mentored largely by her grandfather, Chris quickly earned a reputation as one of the best basketball players in town, playing mostly with older boys in the neighborhood. Chris was an All American basketball player in college, was inducted into the St. Bonaventure Hall of Fame, and remains in the record books at St. Bonaventure. After college, Chris received her Masters’ Degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
In 1989, Chris competed in a co-ed team duathlon, her first foray into multisport competition. Her team won the event, beating all of the mens’ teams in the process. Since then, she has competed in countless triathlons, duathlons, running and mountain bike races; more often than not finishing at the top of her age group and the top overall finishers.
On Friday, August 13, 1993, while out on a training ride, Chris was hit by two cars. She sustained multiple broken bones and other severe injuries. Chris’s doctors told her that she would never run again, and would most certainly never race again.
